Johan Lorbeer - Gravity Defying Street Performer :

Johan Lorbeer is a German street performer who has gained fame for hanging several feet in the air in seemingly impossible positions. These still life Performance acts are hot and this one is called “Tarzan”, where the hell they got this name from is beyond me because I have never seen Tarzan do this.

In the act, Lorbeer casually hangs in mid-air several feet above the ground and leans his left arm stiffly against a building or wall as the other arm rests on his hip. Below him is a fairly large crowd The watching in amazement and taking pictures. At first I was almost certain this was a publicity stunt, but it is not. It is a fairly simple trick, but Lorbeer does a great job of capturing people’s imaginations and curiosity.

Lizard that ain't a Chameleon - The Carolina Anole :

The Carolina Anole or Green Anole is a very interesting type of Lizard. Another name that you may hear it called by is the American Chameleon because it can change colors. That does make things a bit confusing though because scientifically this Lizard doesn’t fall into the category of Chameleon at all.
Being able to change their color based on mood or habitat is a great feature for the Carolina Anole or Green Anole. This can help them to remain well protected from various predators in their natural environment. Most of the time they are lime green with a cream or white belly. They have a very long tail that gets thinner the further away from the body.

At over 2000 kilometers long The Great Barrier Reef is the largest living structure on Earth :

The Great Barrier Reef is one of the seven wonders of the natural world. It is larger than the Great Wall of China and the only living thing on earth visible from space.

The Great Barrier Reef stretches over 3000km (1800 miles) almost parallel to the Queensland coast, from near the coastal town of Bundaberg, up past the tip of Cape York. The reef, between 15 kilometres and 150 kilometres off shore and around 65 Km wide in some parts, is a gathering of brilliant, vivid coral providing divers with the most spectacular underwater experience imaginable.
A closer encounter with the Great Barrier Reef's impressive coral gardens reveals many astounding underwater attractions including the world's largest collection of corals (in fact, more than 400 different kinds of coral), coral sponges, molluscs, rays, dolphins, over 1500 species of tropical fish, more than 200 types of birds, around 20 types of reptiles including sea turtles and giant clams over 120 years old.

The largest number of children ever born to one woman was 69 :

The greatest officially recorded number of children born to one mother is 69, to the wife of Feodor Vassilyev (b. 1707–c.1782), a peasant from Shuya, Russia. In 27 confinements she gave birth to 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets.
Numerous contemporaneous sources exist, which suggest that this seemingly improbably and statistically unlikely story is true. The case was reported to Moscow by the Monastery of Nikolsk on 27 Feb 1782, which had recorded every birth. It is noted that, by this time, only two of the children who were born in the period c. 1725–65 failed to survive their infancy.

Shining Halo cloud mystery :

Above is a still from video taken last October and uploaded onto YouTube of a giant halo in an overcast sky over Moscow. The unusual sight ignited UFO rumors, but was easily explained by meteorologists. The "clouds" was just an optical illusion caused by sunlight hitting a cloud at just the right angle. The cloud's round shape is likely what is known as a hole-punch cloud. These clouds occur within cirrostratus clouds, which are often composed of ice crystals and drops of water that are below freezing temperature but still in liquid form. When cirrostratus clouds are disturbed by planes or strong winds, the droplets can freeze instantly or evaporate, the latter of which will form the hole.

World’s Leggiest Animal Has 750 Legs :

First seen by government scientists in 1928, Illacme plenipes—”the acme of plentiful legs” has more legs than any other animal! It's a millipede, of course. What else could it possibly be?
The strange thing is how tiny it is. We're talking scarcely more than 3 cm (1.2 in) long and about half a millimetre (0.2 in) wide. In this diminutive frame they pack some 750 legs!
Isn't that amazing? You'd think they'd have legs on their back, legs on their sides and legs on their legs... just pure legs everywhere! Instead it's a skinny but otherwise perfectly normal millipede. They just happen to be unbelievably leggy.

The Winking Eye - Gateshead Millennium Bridge :

The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a pedestrian and cyclist tilt bridge spanning the River Tyne in England between Gateshead's Quays arts quarter on the south bank, and the Quayside of Newcastle upon Tyne on the north bank. The award-winning structure was conceived and designed by architects Wilkinson Eyre and structural engineers Gifford. The bridge is sometimes referred to as the 'Blinking Eye Bridge' or the 'Winking Eye Bridge'due to its shape and its tilting method.

Six 45 cm (18 in) diameter Hydraulic rams (three on each side, each powered by a 55 kW electric motor) rotate the bridge back on large bearings to allow small ships and boats (up to 25 m (82 ft) tall) to pass underneath. The bridge takes as little as 4.5 minutes to rotate through the full 40° from closed to open, depending on wind speed. Its appearance during this manoeuvre has led to it being nicknamed the "Blinking Eye Bridge".

Rare Blue Lobster Found Near Ocean City :

A blue lobster caught in waters off the coast, is said to be a 1-in-2-million exception to the rust-colored norm.He has been staying in his own container in Martin's Fish Co.'s lobster tank since the crew of the Pot Luck fishing boat brought him in with the Thursday catch.
"We like to name all our lobsters," assistant manager Ginger Nappi said Friday while people gathered around the tank, checking out Toby.
Toby is blue because of a genetic variation that shows up in about one of every 2 million born that causes the lobster to produce an excessive amount of a particular protein that gives it that pigmentation, according to the University of Maine Lobster Institute.Even more rare: A yellow lobster, estimated to be a 1-in-30-million anomoly, and the 1-in-100-million albino lobster, the Lobster Institute said.

Spanish Runner, Intentionally Loses Race So Opponent Can Win :

A Spanish runner has shown the world that sometimes, just sometimes, winning isn't everything. Last month, Spanish athlete Ivan Fernandez Anaya impressed the world by giving up victory to do the right thing. According to El Pais, it happened as the 24-year-old raced a cross-country event in Burlada, Navarre on Dec. 2.
In second place to Abel Mutai, the Kenyan athlete who won a bronze medal in the London Olympics, Anaya suddenly had a chance to surge ahead. According to El Pais, Mutai mistakenly thought the end of the race came about 10 meters sooner than it did, and stopped running.
Then, he “looked back and saw the people telling him to keep going," Anaya told CNA. "But since he doesn't speak Spanish he didn't realize it." So Anaya slowed, guiding Mutai to the actual finish line.
And he didn't think much of it, either. Anaya told El Pais:
"I didn't deserve to win it. I did what I had to do. He was the rightful winner. He created a gap that I couldn't have closed if he hadn't made a mistake. As soon as I saw he was stopping, I knew I wasn't going to pass him."

Alien Skulls Found At Sonora, Mexico, Ancient Burial Site :

An ancient burial site in Mexico, discovered in 1999 but only recently investigated, has revealed skeletal remains with odd, "alien-shaped" skulls. They were unearthed in the northwestern Mexican state of Sonora at a site known as "El Cementerio" when workers stumbled upon the remains accidentally while digging to install an irrigation system. According to Time, the bones date to between A.D. 940 and 1308, making them around 1,000 years old.
The skulls appear to have been intentionally deformed until they resembled something akin to the "Coneheads," the fictional alien family made famous on "Saturday Night Live" in the late 1970s. Ryan Matthew, a host on the Science Channel, explained that the process of cranial deformation usually began in childhood.
"When you were a newborn baby, you would be cradle-boarded," Matthew said. "They would put two boards around the head and wrap it very securely. Because the head of a child is very soft, it can be manipulated forward, but the process would take several months."

Gold Rush - Amateur Gold Digger Strikes 12-Pound Jackpot :

Using a handheld metal detector, he found the nugget on Wednesday, 60cm underground near the town of Ballarat. Its value is estimated at more than $A300,000. The BBC reports gold currently trades in Australia at about $A1600 per ounce, but the weight of the nugget could add a premium.
"We are 162 years into a gold rush and Ballarat is still producing nuggets - it's unheard of," said Ballarat Mining Exchange Gold Shop owner Cordell Kent. He said the prospector had been using a state-of-the-art metal detector, which meant he was able to find the gold relatively deep underground in an area which has been searched many times in the past.

Inside The Large Hadron Collider - World's Largest Atom Smasher :

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world's largest and highest-energy particle accelerator. It was built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) from 1998 to 2008, with the aim of allowing physicists to test the predictions of different theories of particle physics and high-energy physics, and particularly prove or disprove the existence of the hypothesized Higgs boson and of the large family of new particles predicted by supersymmetric theories.

The LHC was built in collaboration with over 10,000 scientists and engineers from over 100 countries, as well as hundreds of universities and laboratories. It lies in a tunnel 27 kilometres (17 mi) in circumference, as deep as 175 metres (574 ft) beneath the Franco-Swiss border near Geneva, Switzerland.
